Cleve Miller gives English360 its first outing at BESIG 2009

Attendees of the annual BESIG conference in Poznan last weekend saw English360 in action as Cleve Miller gave the conference a sneak preview of the web-based learning platform.

In this session, Cleve described how English360 is pioneering a totally new way of delivering language learning online.  This is not a top-down approach of putting coursebooks online as you’d expect from an ELT publisher. Instead, this is a bottom-up approach that gives teachers the digital tools they need to create and deliver highly personalised teaching that meets learners’ work goals.

Designed for teachers of business English and ESP who want to create their own courses tailored to their student needs, English360 takes what teachers are already doing today but let’s them do this online – combining their own lesson plans and activities with course materials from publishers such as Cambridge University Press.

On her blog about the BESIG conference (see Kalinago English), Karenne Sylvester shares her reactions following Cleve Miller’s talk:

English 360 is an online space where TEFL teachers are able to create course playlists, share with others, discuss ideas and learn from each other. It’s an active, user-generated content platform combining your own work plus, this is the wow factor, previously published materials from Cambridge University Press – all of which can be integrated and even branded as per each teachers’ /language institute wishes!
