New tech tools update

Update on new sites/software/services I’m trying (see post below - haven’t figured out permalinks yet in Drupal).

(Update: we switched from Drupal to Movable Type, but through no fault of Drupal. Also, somewhere in the move from Blogger to Drupal to MT we lost all the comments…sorry …we’re looking for them).

I haven’t really explored features in any of these - just downloaded and started using, which is an interesting test of usability design.

Firefox: fine, no problems, tab capability useful

Skype: there’s nothing like a 90′ conversation with a colleague overseas…that costs nothing. Evidently there are other audio chat services that do the same thing, but the bandwagon has it that Skype has better audio quality (I must admit that the Skype echo is annoying, but still audio quality is as good/better than a landline). The other great thing about Skype is the SkypeOut function - you can call a (non-Skype) landline from your Skype application, although here you do have to pay: about 2 cents a minute. (Be prepared to wait a couple of days before the credits you purchase appear on your log-in screen…you can still use the service, although it appears that you have no credit.)

Onfolio: it had gotten to the point that my bookmark scheme was too complex, cumbersome, and generally useless, and the time I invested researching stuff on the web was undocumented. Onfolio 2.0 has changed all that…go check it out. I love it.

Drupal: just getting started here, and I don’t know how to use the most basic functions yet, and the next few posts will reflect that. But this site is run on Drupal, so we’ve got a start…stay tuned.
Update: We’ve switched from Drupal to Movable Type for the English360 site re-design, but not because of any problems with Drupal (actually now that I think about it I’m not sure why we switched!).
